🗞️ The Weekly Roundup.
Editor in chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, released a story about how he had accidental access to a group text chat that included some of America’s top leaders regarding an attack on the Houthis, a terrorist group in Yemen, raising questions about the Signal chat's appropriateness and legality. Officials on the thread have reiterated that the chat did not disclose any classified information, prompting Goldberg to release the entire chat in order for people to determine for themselves. (Have you seen Jenna's reporter's notebook on this?)
Mia Love, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Utah and the first Black Republican woman elected to Congress, passed away at age 49 after battling brain cancer. In a Deseret News op-ed, Love spoke about the America she grew up loving and expressed her lasting hope for a less divided nation, saying, “whenever you divide you diminish.” (See more on our Instagram.)
President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday a 25% tariff on all foreign-made cars and light trucks, with collections starting April 3. He emphasized that vehicles built in the U.S. will face “absolutely no tariff.” These new duties will be added on top of existing tariffs, with “very strong policing” for tariffs on foreign-made parts.
A top leader from the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang was arrested in Virginia. The gang formed in Los Angeles in the 1980s and is responsible for trafficking stolen vehicles, drug distribution and human trafficking in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. While the Trump administration confirmed the arrest of one of the gang’s top leaders, it did not release the name of the individual.
Four soldiers have been missing in Lithuania since early Tuesday. The four U.S. Army soldiers were in a large armored vehicle (M88) and reportedly drove their vehicle into a training area to retrieve another vehicle and then went missing. Their M88 was discovered in a swampy, densely forested area. Recovery efforts continue as of Friday evening.
🙌🏽 What We Found SmartHER This Week.
Stephanie here on the SHN team. 👋🏽 Over spring break, our family decided to take a bucket list trip to London and Paris. While I'm physically back in the States, my heart is still in the land of afternoon tea, palaces and endless croissants. Can a girl get an occasional castle over here, please? As soon as I got back, Jenna asked where my trench coat came from — the one I wore every moment of our nine-day trip (it's still a bit chilly over there).
It is the PERFECT coat. Lightweight, high-quality fabric that provides warmth while still looking chic in all our photos. There's just one problem (well, for you and Jenna) — I purchased it at Goodwill for $10.99! (Can I brag for just a second about finding a brand-new JCrew coat for that price?)

Since spring means lingering chilly temps for many of you, plus the start of rainy season for others, we decided to hunt for the best trenches — in every budget.
Jenna is eyeing this one from Rhone. We love the hood, the color options and the length. They even have it styled with Jenna's favorite shoes. 👟 Price: $298 (but hot tip: you get 15% off if you're a new shopper!)

This trench from London Fog also features a hood and chic belt, and it's 65% off! 🙌🏽Price: $83.00

And if you're looking for a steal of a deal ... this trench from H&M is also on sale. We love the tortoise shell details. This one has limited sizes available, but H&M has quite a few others to choose from! Price: $43.99

🗣️ Conversation Starters.
USPS released a Betty White Stamp. According to USPS, the new forever stamp was designed to "honor the life and legacy of actor, TV personality, and animal advocate Betty White (1922-2021), whose television appearances spanned the history of the medium and delighted generations of fans." You can purchase the forever stamps in sets of 20. Now excuse us while we go order all of them.

The White House had a tiny intruder this week, and it's not the first time this has happened. Secret Service confirmed a child slipped through the fence on the North Lawn of the White House on Wednesday. While breaches of the White House remain rare, a similar incident occurred nearly two years ago with a young child in the same location.

Who better to get sleep tips from than a sleep doctor?! Advice includes honoring your internal clock, getting morning sunlight, nixing alcohol before bed, develop a nightly ritual, etc. Now, if you have children, especially multiple, just ignore this entire paragraph. 😂
Is it a miracle or science? Maybe both! A paralyzed man received “reprogrammed” stem cells and can now walk independently. The Japanese trial is the first of its kind in which four paralyzed men received reprogrammed stem cells.
And that's The Weekend Digest!
❤️,
Jenna and the SHN Team
