The White House Easter Egg Roll of 1944 (White House Historical Association) - The Jackson Magnolia stands proudly in this photo, to the left of the famous White House portico (covered entrance).

President Andrew Jackson reportedly planted The Jackson Magnolia two centuries ago, using a cutting from his late wife's favorite magnolia tree to honor her memory. It served as the backdrop for some of the most notable White House events — including the annual Easter Egg Roll. It even graced the back of the $20 bill for 70 years.

After years of irreversible decline, however, the White House decided to remove the famous Jackson Magnolia this week, replacing it with a sapling grown from the original tree’s lineage to preserve its legacy.

💵 President Trump: Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize because of tariffs? Or is he "playing with fire"? Two thought-provoking opinions on the week's top story.

💧 Safe to sip? The feds are studying fluoride in drinking water. Sec. Kennedy says there’s no reason to have fluoride in drinking water when it can be easily purchased in toothpastes and mouthwashes at the store; critics say banning fluoride will cause more oral health problems in the long term.

📉 "Eased more than expected": what the latest inflation data says.

☕️ Down to a science: Physicists at the University of Pennsylvania determined the most economical way to brew your morning cup of joe — important to know if you're worried about how tariffs might affect the price of your coffee.

🎼 "The sounds of America": "Hamilton" and Celine Dion were among the selections for the 2025 National Recording Registry. Check out others that made the cut.

🪴 Sacred soil? An archaeological dig at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre uncovered a 2,000-year-old garden — offering evidence that echoes the account of Jesus' tomb in the Gospel of John.

🌉 Would you drive it? The world's tallest bridge will soon open in southwest China. At 625 meters above the water, it's nearly twice as tall as the Eiffel Tower. It's expected to "slash travel time across the gorge from over an hour to just a few minutes," but the question is ... are you brave enough to cross it? (We are ... not 😂).
